New Lock Installation

A lock needs to do more than simply fit into the door. Proper installation and alignment are important for security, reliability, and smooth operation.

NorthWest Lock & Key can install locks on existing doors as well as prepare many doors for new lock hardware when a lock has not previously been installed.

Residential lock installation may include:

  • Deadbolts

  • Door knobs

  • Door levers

  • Keypad locks

  • Electronic locks

  • Smart locks

  • Entry door locks

  • Garage entry door locks

  • Replacement lock hardware

  • Additional security hardware

We'll evaluate the door, frame, and existing hardware to determine the appropriate installation.

Deadbolt Installation

Adding or replacing a deadbolt is one of the most common residential security upgrades.

We install deadbolts on compatible exterior doors and make sure the lock, bolt, strike, and door frame are properly aligned.

If your door doesn't currently have a deadbolt, we may be able to prepare the door and frame for a completely new installation.

Keypad & Electronic Lock Installation

Want to stop reaching for your keys every time you come home?

NorthWest Lock & Key installs many residential keypad, electronic, and smart locks.

Depending on the lock you choose, features may include:

  • Keyless entry

  • Programmable access codes

  • Temporary or guest codes

  • Automatic locking

  • Traditional key backup

  • Smartphone connectivity

  • Remote access on compatible smart locks

We can also replace many existing mechanical deadbolts with compatible electronic or keypad locks.

Replacing Old or Worn Locks

Locks don't last forever.

Years of use, weather exposure, worn internal components, damaged keys, and misaligned doors can eventually make a lock difficult or unreliable to operate.

Common signs that replacement may be appropriate include:

  • Key is difficult to turn

  • Lock frequently sticks or binds

  • Deadbolt doesn't extend smoothly

  • Lock hardware is loose

  • Exterior hardware is heavily worn or corroded

  • Lock has been physically damaged

  • Existing hardware no longer provides the security or features you want

In some cases, the existing lock may only need adjustment or repair. We'll evaluate the hardware before recommending unnecessary replacement.

Lock Installation vs. Rekeying

If your existing locks work properly and you simply want different keys, you may not need new hardware.

Rekeying changes the lock so the old keys no longer work while allowing you to keep your existing hardware.

Lock installation or replacement makes more sense when the existing hardware is damaged, worn out, missing, or when you want to upgrade to a different type of lock.

We provide both services and can help determine which option makes the most sense for your home.

Make Your New Locks Work With One Key

Installing new hardware doesn't necessarily mean adding another key to your key ring.

When the locks and keyways are compatible, we can often rekey newly installed locks to match other locks throughout your home.

That can allow your front door, back door, garage entry, and other exterior doors to operate with the same key.

Installing Customer-Supplied Locks

Already purchased a deadbolt, keypad, or smart lock?

We may be able to professionally install customer-supplied residential lock hardware as long as the lock is compatible with the door and application.

If you're unsure which lock to purchase, give us a call before ordering. We can help determine what type of hardware will work with your existing door.

New Door Lock Preparation

Some doors don't already have the necessary holes or preparation for the lock you want to install.

Depending on the door and hardware, NorthWest Lock & Key can perform new lock preparation for many residential doors, including boring and preparing the door and frame for compatible lock hardware.

Proper measurements and alignment are especially important when adding a new deadbolt or lock to a door.
